Course outline
These five-week 100% online courses are intended for teachers with little or no experience in teaching students who wish to take the University of Cambridge PET, KET or FCE examinations.
The courses include detailed descriptions of the examination requirements and the types of tasks included in each of the papers in terms of speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary. However, the courses are not just a collection of examination practice activities: they offer advice on and practical examples of approaches to developing the students’ language abilities in general.
Five separate courses are currently offered:
- YLE (for the Young Learners English tests, i.e. Starters, Movers and Flyers)
- PET
- KET
- FCE 1 (Reading, Writing and Listening)
- FCE 2 (Speaking and Use of English)
On all the courses, participants are invited to experiment with the ideas and materials offered on the courses and to report back on these experiments on the course forums. Participants should be prepared to post on the forums at least two or three times a week and to engage in discussion via these forums with their course tutors and fellow course participants.

Length & time commitment
It is notoriously difficult to predict exactly how many hours an online course will take any given student. For our Cambridge exam courses, we believe you should estimate at least 3-4 hours per module for the reading and completion of the tasks set, giving around 15 hours minimum for this particular course.
That estimate excludes the amount of class time you use for experimenting with the ideas and material from the course.
You should aim to complete each course module within 7 to 10 days.
